How is my progress measured?
Physical therapists primarily measure your impairments and your functional limitations.
Impairments include:
- Pain
- Weakness
- Loss of motion
- Paresthesias (numbness, tingling, pins, needles, etc.)
Functional limitations include:
- Lying
- Sleep
- Rolling over
- Getting up out of bed

- Moving from standing to sitting
- Moving from sitting to standing
- Standing
- Walking
- Level ground

Tracking your impairments and functional abilities gives physical therapists objective information to compare with initial measurements. In addition, your reports and personal experiences help to validate your improvements and clue your therapist to regressions and/or lack of progress.
The bottom line is that you should notice improvements in how you feel and function throughout therapy. If you are not following an anticipated path of progress, your therapist will reassess the situation or make recommendations for further testing or treatments.
How long is each appointment going to be?
Although every patient is different, the initial session usually lasts 1 hour to an hour and 15 minutes. After that, each session will vary depending on your condition and progress; most often, it will last 45-60 minutes.
Your unique needs will determine the length of time, which our therapist will discuss with you. In addition, the frequency of your weekly appointments will be determined by you and your physical therapist.
It is common for your therapist to want to see you more often in the early stages of your care to assess your progress and confirm your treatment plan. You'll probably see your therapist twice a week initially and then make your appointments more spaced out as you proceed through treatment.

At Maximum Rehabilitation Services, we believe in creating individualized treatment plans for every patient. When you visit our clinic, we will administer a set of tests to determine the cause of your injury or functional difficulties.
Your physical therapist may ask about your medical history and may request that you perform specific movements or tests so that they can assess the quality of your movement patterns and identify any problems firsthand.
Your therapist will then tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs. Joint mobilization exercises, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercise are examples of such methods.
Can I benefit from physical therapy treatments?
You most certainly can!
Physical therapists are experts at evaluating the whole person. This means that we seek to identify all of the factors associated with your condition. We understand the body's interconnectedness and how a problem in one area may be a symptom pointing to the source of the situation in another.
We are also adept at determining whether you are dealing with one problem or several issues affecting you and your function.
Everyone can benefit from physical therapy, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing you need. We believe in collaborating with other healthcare professionals and working with you while another practitioner assists you in getting the results you deserve.
We can discuss your options and help you decide if physical therapy is right for you. Contact us today to learn more about how PT can help you and make an appointment with one of our dedicated staff members.
Are physical therapy treatments painful?
Physical therapy is intended to relieve pain rather than aggravate it. Your pain levels, however, may fluctuate. Our therapists will clearly define what constitutes "normal" pain and what does not. To facilitate improvements in your overall condition, some situations necessitate exercises or actions that can elicit a pain response.
You may experience some discomfort as a result of using weakened or recovering muscles. Alternatively, due to the nature of the condition, restoring range of motion after surgery can be painful for some. Unfortunately, experiencing a temporary increase in pain may be critical to your recovery. Although it may seem counterintuitive, there are times when increased pain early on can prevent more severe pain later on.
Rest assured that we will do everything possible to reduce your pain and prevent it from worsening during your physical therapy session. Communication with our therapist will aid in the reduction of any discomfort you may experience during your physical therapy treatments.
We want you to be pain-free and back to your normal activities as soon as possible, and we will do everything we can to prepare you for any discomfort.
What do I need to know about physical therapy?
Physical therapists are highly educated professionals who specialize in musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. Physical therapists work as part of a healthcare team that includes physicians, surgeons, and other medical professionals.
We also collaborate with other healthcare providers such as chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists to ensure that your treatment plan is as effective and efficient as possible.
Physical therapists are movement specialists who have received extensive training and education in musculoskeletal disorders and diseases. Physical therapists treat pain and restore function by using their hands.
Physical therapy seeks to restore pain-free mobility and function while preventing recurrence of the injury or pain. Physical therapists provide comprehensive care, from prevention to intervention. Our physical therapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the source of your pain, and collaborate with you to manage or eliminate it.
While every patient's condition and pain is different, our physical therapist at Maximum Rehabilitation Services will use a variety of targeted manual therapy techniques, exercises, modalities, and equipment to quickly relieve pain and restore function.
How is the progress of my physical therapy treatment tracked?
You should notice a significant improvement in your discomfort and overall function as you progress through your rehabilitation activities.
Keeping track of your pain and mobility levels as you progress through your physical therapy program is an effective way to measure your improvement and progress.
Keeping track of your impairments and functional abilities provides physical therapists with objective data to compare to initial measurements. Furthermore, your reports and personal experiences aid in validating your progress and alerting your therapist to regressions and/or a lack of progress.
The bottom line is that you should notice improvements in how you feel and function throughout therapy. If you are not following an anticipated path of progress, your therapist will reassess the situation or make recommendations for further testing or treatments.

How is physical therapy different for older people?
At Maximum Rehabilitation Services, we understand that as we age, our bodies become more vulnerable to certain health risks. Degeneration of our bodies is a normal, natural process that we will all go through. There is no way to avoid all of the changes that come with aging, but staying active and taking care of your health are the most effective ways to reduce or delay the risk of aging-related health conditions.
Age-related changes in strength, joint mobility, tissue flexibility, coordination, and reaction time, for example, will affect our balance and increase our risk of falling. We will investigate your medical history, determine what factors may be contributing to your fall risk, and work with you to restore your function and reduce your risks at our Chicago, IL, Evergreen Park, IL, and Munster, IN clinic.
Aging also has an impact on healing times and your body's ability to tolerate changes in activity levels. Maintaining your health and function requires you to stay active.
Our team at Maximum Rehabilitation Services can assist you if you are looking for physical therapists who understand how to navigate the effects of aging.
For more information, please contact our office right away.
Why is physical therapy taking longer than I expected?
Although there are typical stages of healing, everyone is unique, and so is their ability to heal.
At Maximum Rehabilitation Services, you will receive a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. Throughout your recovery, our team will provide constant feedback and allow for program refinement to ensure optimal results.
The most common causes of delayed recovery are attempting to do too much too soon or failing to do enough. Physical therapists thrive when they can find a happy medium. We refine your program and maximize your results in the shortest amount of time possible by using concrete physiological benchmarks and your individual treatment response.
If you have any questions or concerns about the duration of your treatment plan, please consult with your physical therapist. We are here to assist you throughout this process by providing clarity. Throughout each session, we will keep you informed of your progress.
Do you offer treatment for my condition at your clinic?
Physical therapists are trained to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders. Most physical therapy clinics specialize in one or two areas of physical therapy.
You can trust that our skilled therapists will assess and treat your condition. Pediatric physical therapists, for example, frequently work solely with children. In contrast, orthopedic outpatient physical therapists will work with patients of all ages and conditions.
If we believe that another therapist or healthcare provider would be a better fit for you, we will make recommendations for people we know and trust.
Our physical therapists have years of university-level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (the study of joint movement), neurology, and a variety of other medical sciences. All of our physical therapists are state-licensed and have completed accredited physical therapy programs.
You can be confident that you are in capable hands!
When can I expect to feel better?
Because each patient's diagnosis is unique, our therapist will collaborate with you and any other medical or healthcare provider to ensure you get the best results possible.
Our goal is to identify all of the factors that are causing your condition. To gather this information, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation and thorough history and then design a treatment plan that is appropriate for you.
Some people experience relief on the first day; for others, it is a journey filled with ups and downs. It is difficult to predict who you will be until we meet with you and examine your specific situation.
Our team is well-versed in treating all types of musculoskeletal pain and injuries. We'll give you some pointers to help you understand your condition and what to expect from therapy. These guidelines will include the expected duration of your situation as well as realistic timetables for progress.
Throughout the process, our team is here to help and answer your questions!
Can I keep seeing a therapist even if I’m feeling better?
Yes, you can continue to see your physical therapist after you have completed your therapy sessions. There are several approaches to this, for example:
- Your therapist will meet with you to go over and discuss your at-home therapy program.
- You can re-evaluate your progress after a month to ensure you're still on track and modify your home program as needed.
- You can make an appointment with your therapist at regular intervals (for example, every six months) to assess your progress, ensure you are not regressing, and address any new issues that have arisen.
We can also meet you at your gym to work with you on determining what equipment and exercises would be beneficial in your ongoing recovery.
What are the office policies I should be aware of?
If you are unable to attend your appointment due to illness or another emergency, please notify us at least X hours before your scheduled appointment time.
Any appointments that are missed and not rescheduled at least X hours in advance will incur a non-refundable charge of X dollars.
We also ask that if you have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus or are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please reschedule your appointment with our front desk so that we can keep our patients and employees safe and healthy.

What exactly does a massage therapist do?
Licensed massage therapists have advanced training and experience that enables them to provide care to relieve pain, improve tissue mobility, increase circulation, or improve function.
"Medical" massages are intended to assist people suffering from medical disorders and illnesses. The goal is to help patients with cancer, diseases, or who are in hospice reduce pain and stress.
What qualifications does a licensed massage therapist need?
LMTs are massage therapists with a state license to practice massage in the United States. In Canada, the equivalents are known as registered massage therapists or RMTs.
To obtain their licenses, licensed massage therapists must complete training and exams. Licensing requirements vary by state, but in order to be licensed, LMTs must complete training and pass an exam.
Massage therapists work with people of all ages and with a wide range of medical conditions. Some emphasize preventative massage to avoid injury and pain, while others emphasize massage's relaxation benefits.
The manual techniques used by each therapist differ. There are gentle and deep tissue techniques, as well as alternative medicine techniques, that emphasize the body's energy fields.
How long are massage sessions?
A massage session typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, but you can reap the benefits of massage in as little as 20 to 30 minutes.
What should I anticipate from my first massage therapy session?
A health history questionnaire may be requested by your massage therapist. Following that, your therapist will ask you a series of broad questions to determine which areas require attention and whether any conditions require treatment. This will help them decide whether or not massage is right for you.
Your massage experience will be determined by the condition for which you are being treated as well as the expert advice of your massage therapist. A traditional massage may be used to relax the muscles on the surface, while a deep tissue massage may be used to target the muscles, fascia, and other tissues deeper in the body.
Is it necessary for me to undress completely?
You should always and only undress to your level of comfort.
For a full-body massage, most people keep their underwear on, but if you are comfortable, you can undress completely.
In private, your massage therapist can assist you in undressing and adjusting your position on the table.
How will I feel following my massage therapy session?
The majority of people leave their sessions feeling at ease and relaxed. Many people report that their aches and pains have lessened or gone away completely after receiving a massage.
If you had a deep tissue massage, you might be sore the next day. This is nothing to be concerned about. A hot shower or a soak in the tub can help relieve muscle aches and pains.

Understanding speech sound disorders
The term "speech sound disorder" refers to any difficulty or combination of difficulties with perception, motor production, or mental representation of the sounds in speech and combinations of sounds that comprise words (i.e., phonological representation).
Most children make mistakes when learning to pronounce new words, and each sound has an age range for when they should make it correctly. If these errors in speech persist after a certain age, it is referred to as a speech sound disorder.

How long will my child’s speech therapy appointments last?
It is critical to remember that all children develop at different rates. What one child finds normal during speech therapy may not be the same for another.
- Your child's time in speech therapy will be evaluated based on his or her progress in the following areas:
- They improved their communication skills with their therapist, family members, peers, or teachers.
- How at ease they are speaking and listening to others
- How well they understand the speech exercises and concepts that are being taught to them.
Some children attend speech therapy for a few months, others for a few years, and still others throughout their childhood.
Your Maximum Rehabilitation Services therapist will work with parents, educators, and physicians to decide how long your child should stay in speech therapy.
How frequently should my child go to speech therapy?
This question has a different answer for each child.
We usually see children X times per week for X months. The number of appointments a child needs is determined by his or her diagnosis and progress. Treatment timelines will be discussed with you by your child's therapist at Maximum Rehabilitation Services.

Certainly!
We want you to be present at their session! Our therapists at Maximum Rehabilitation Services recognize the importance of parents and the importance of their support for optimal results.

Several factors, including the following, influence stuttering treatment:
- The age of your child

Speech therapy in Chicago, IL, Evergreen Park, IL, and Munster, IN for treating articulation disorders
The ability of a child to produce appropriate sounds when speaking is referred to as articulation. This is distinct from phonological issues, which occur when a child can produce the correct sounds but arranges them incorrectly. An articulation disorder is a failure to produce sounds.
If your child has an articulation disorder, they may struggle to make sounds or construct specific speech sounds (for example, a "s" may sound like a "th") - "thpoon" instead of "spoon" - or they may speak with a lisp.
Because a child with an articulation disorder is unable to produce specific sounds, they will compensate with other sounds (i.e., the word "rabbit" will become "wabbit").
Children with these disorders can benefit from speech therapy at Maximum Rehabilitation Services. We will tailor our treatment plan to your child's specific articulation issues after your initial consultation with your Chicago or Evergreen Park, IL or Munster, IN therapist.
The following interventions may be included in your child’s plan:
- Treatments for advanced oral-motor function
- Neuromuscular retraining
- Intensive voice programs for functional computer retraining
- Techniques of traditional speech therapy
How can speech therapy help with receptive-expressive language disorders?
Language processing disorders include receptive-expressive language disorders. This neurological disorder makes it difficult for a person to express themselves or, in some cases, to understand what is said to them.
Individuals with expressive language disorders have difficulty producing language, such as speaking in grammatically correct sentences or translating their thoughts into appropriate words.
People with receptive language impairments may misinterpret information, even simple instructions, or fail to recognize when they are being spoken to.
Language processing disorders include receptive-expressive language disorders. This neurological disorder makes it difficult for a person to express themselves or, in some cases, to understand what is said to them.

If you don't have time to print them ahead of time, arrive at least 25 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to complete them before your appointment.
We ask all patients to bring a few items on their first visit to our clinic.
- Please dress your child in comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely and allows their therapist easy access to any areas that need to be examined.
- All insurance information, as well as the actual insurance card, for us to copy.
- Any referral/prescription, test results, or medical records that our therapists may need to review.
What should I expect from the first appointment?
Arriving at our physical therapy clinic is like walking into any other medical office! Here's what you can anticipate.
When you arrive at our office, you will register at the front desk. We'll need your insurance information as well as any other paperwork you've brought with you (i.e., referral, X-ray or MRI report, and other medical reports)
When you first meet with a physical therapist, you will be asked about your child's developmental milestones, such as sitting up, crawling, and walking, and the age at which they were accomplished. Your child's therapist will be curious about your concerns or why you brought your child here.
Following these discussions, your therapist will perform a physical examination to identify developmental difficulties or delays. Your therapist may also observe your child as he or she engages in activities like toy play, standing, sitting, moving, and transitioning between activities.
Following your Maximum Rehabilitation Services therapist's assessment of your child, you will work together to develop a treatment plan for your child.
If you have any questions, please contact us at any time. We want to ensure that you are satisfied with your child's plan, treatments, and progress.
What if my child is sick?

What is at-home physical therapy, exactly?
Physical therapists work in a variety of settings to assist people in maintaining, improving, or restoring mobility. Home therapy sessions are common for people who have recently left the hospital following an injury, surgery, or medical condition (e.g., stroke). Staying at home for physical therapy is the best option for some people.
Whether you are unable to leave the house or prefer a private PT session in the comfort of your own home, our therapists will come to you and work with you to restore your normal functional mobility.
Our therapists will arrive with everything you need to continue receiving our high-quality care. We understand that some patients find it difficult to leave their homes for physical therapy, but they still want cutting-edge care and the results they deserve!
Begin right away with Maximum Rehabilitation Services. We provide in-home physical therapy services to help you regain functionality in the privacy of your own home.
Is Maximum Rehabilitation Services a Home Health Agency?
The simple answer is no!
Maximum Rehabilitation Services is not the same as Home Health physical therapy. We are a private practice outpatient service that sees patients in the comfort of their own homes. Home health agencies, on the other hand, typically provide various services and are governed by different rules.
Our home therapy program provides individuals who are not considered homebound with an alternative way to receive proven physical therapy treatments in the comfort of their own homes.
Before making an appointment, make sure to check with your insurance company. Medicare Part B covers medically necessary PT services for older adults under the standard fee schedule, whether therapy is provided at home or in a clinic.
Is a physician referral required for in-home physical therapy?
Yes and no!
Direct Access means you do not have to obtain a physician's referral. You can now access physical therapist services for evaluation and treatment without a physician referral in every state.
However, some states limit the number of visits and/or the length of time you can see a physical therapist without the involvement of a physician. Patients with Medicare will need a doctor's prescription or their signature on the physical therapist's plan of care.
If you are concerned in any way, we recommend that you first contact your doctor and request a prescription be faxed to us, or that you contact us directly, and we will obtain a prescription from the doctor.
Why choose Maximum Rehabilitation Services over an outpatient clinic for physical therapy
One of the most common reasons for choosing home physical therapy is safety. People who are immunocompromised due to diseases or chemotherapy treatments, for example, may prefer to stay at home to limit their exposure to potentially fatal illnesses.
COVID-19 has lately become a common reason for choosing home therapy sessions.
To keep our patients safe, we follow CDC guidelines and universal precautions to help older adults reduce their risk of COVID-19 and other illnesses.
Traveling to a clinic for physical therapy sessions is another common reason for home therapy. Our patients do not have to worry about driving or arranging transportation to the clinic 2-3 times per week. Home therapy also assists people in navigating the actual obstacles and constraints they face at home.
Our therapists are highly skilled at working with people of all ages and abilities, and they will provide the same level of care at home that you would receive in an outpatient clinic.
Can in-home therapy treat my condition?
In-home physical therapy can help with a variety of orthopedic conditions, such as back and neck pain, arthritis, and balance and gait issues. We also treat neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, and stroke.
Physical therapists are movement experts who specialize in treating musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. We work with a variety of healthcare providers to ensure that your treatments are as effective as possible.
To learn more about the conditions we treat, please contact Maximum Rehabilitation Services!
How long do in-home physical therapy sessions last?
Most people's initial evaluations will last up to 60 minutes, with follow-up visits lasting 30-60 minutes.
The length of your care will also be determined by your specific needs. Your therapist will discuss their assessment and answer any questions you may have during your initial evaluation. At this point, your therapist will recommend an estimated duration and frequency for your treatment.
It is common to see your therapist more frequently at the start of your treatment, and you will most likely see your therapist twice (or sometimes three times) per week to begin with. Your sessions will become more spaced out as you progress through treatment.
Why is Maximum Rehabilitation Services the best choice for Medicare patients?
We bridge the gap for Medicare patients who are not homebound and who would prefer to receive therapy at home rather than traveling to an outpatient facility.
Medicare Part B covers medically necessary physical therapy services for older adults, whether provided at home or in a clinic. Our therapy treatments are designed specifically for older adults, making us the best choice for anyone on Medicare Part B.
Payment and fees for in-home physical therapy
In most cases, if you have Medicare and secondary insurance, you can receive our in-home services and treatment with minimal out-of-pocket costs. Deductibles and copays are applicable.
We recommend that you contact your insurance company to discuss your coverage and requirements for in-home physical therapy. Before your first visit, our administrative team will review your insurance benefits and discuss what, if any, payments are required at your appointment date.
Cash, check, debit card, and credit card are all accepted. We are also happy to discuss our payment options. If you believe you are a good candidate, please call today to schedule an appointment.

When will I begin noticing pain relief?
Our therapist will collaborate with you, your physician, and other members of your healthcare team to develop the best treatment plan for your specific condition. A thorough evaluation can predict the likely outcome of physical therapy intervention.
Our goal is to help you find pain relief and return to normal function as soon as possible. Several factors influence how long it takes to find relief.
Your overall health, the nature of your specific condition, other health issues, the severity and duration of your condition, and your participation, for example, will all have an impact on your outcome.
Can I continue with therapy after my pain has subsided?
Yes, once you have completed your therapy sessions, your therapist will provide you with an at-home continuing therapy program. We can also schedule follow-up assessments to ensure that you are still doing well and to address any new issues that have arisen.
In addition, we will work with you to determine whether any equipment or supplies (such as bands, weights, etc.) would be beneficial to your recovery.
